Exhibit: Sir David Attenborough – portrait by Jonathan Yeo

02 - 07 July 2024 18:00 - 18:00 The Royal Society Free

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2024.

The Royal Society has unveiled a portrait of Sir David Attenborough to celebrate 40 years of his Fellowship.

The artwork was painted by world renowned artist Jonathan Yeo, who recently released a striking portrait of King Charles III, and was unveiled to the nation live on BBC’s The One Show on 25 June.

It celebrates Sir David’s brilliant career in public engagement and the fundamental role he continues to play in educating audiences everywhere on climate change and biodiversity.

Sir David said: “It was a tremendous honour to be elected a fellow of the Royal Society over 40 years ago and that my portrait has now been painted by such a master as Jonathan Yeo for the Society’s extensive and important collection is extraordinary indeed.”

The portrait can be viewed by the public at our Summer Science Exhibition. The Exhibition is free to attend and will open with an adults-only Lates event on Tuesday 2 July at 6pm. The exhibition will open its doors to all ages from 10am on Wednesday 3 July to Sunday 7 July 2024.
