Review Commons is a journal-independent platform that peer-reviews research papers before submission to a journal.

Review Commons logo

Review Commons was jointly launched by ASAPbio and EMBO as a platform designed for conducting high-quality, journal-independent peer reviews of life sciences manuscripts prior to their submission to a journal. Open Biology is pleased to join a consortium of affiliated journals that have agreed to accept submissions accompanied by reviews from Review Commons, eliminating the need to restart the review process. We now enthusiastically welcome submissions previously reviewed at Review Commons.

Authors can choose to submit preprints to Review Commons for expert peer review, overseen by professional editors. Subsequently, authors can make an informed decision about the optimal venue for their Refereed Preprint, which includes the manuscript, reviewers’ reports, and any author responses.

As part of Royal Society Publishing’s commitment to support open science, Open Biology, champions initiatives like Review Commons and preprints with our own Preprint Team, enabling authors to share their work earlier and receive prompt feedback, credit, and citations. This not only expedites the scholarly communication process but also empowers researchers in the life sciences. Engaging with Review Commons allows authors to save time on resubmitting to multiple journals, facilitating quicker, informed decisions without restarting the process.

“We are delighted to be joining Review Commons. This is another important step in our aim to make Open Biology an integral part of the movement to breakdown the barriers to publishing and put rapid, constructive review at the heart of the journal.” Jon Pines FRS, Editor-in-Chief, Open Biology

Open Biology is looking to publish more high-quality research articles in cellular and molecular biology. Find out more about our author benefits and submission process.
