Talk: Buzzworthy inquiry - can flies transform our food supply?

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2024. 

With the human population booming and food shortages on the rise, the need for sustainable food production has never been more critical. Enter black soldier fly larvae—an unexpected but highly nutritious and sustainable protein source that could revolutionise our food supply.

However, farming these insects on a large scale requires precise control over their life cycle. That's where Entocycle comes in, a success story presented at Labs to riches, the Royal Society’s flagship industry event. This innovative company has developed cutting-edge technology to automate and scale up insect farming, a breakthrough that was previously out of reach for the industry.

Lyndon Leissle, Entomology Technician at Entocycle, will reveal how their advancements make it possible to produce black soldier fly larvae efficiently and sustainably, offering a promising solution to our growing food needs.

This talk will be held in the Kohn Centre on Thursday 4 July 2024, 2pm - 2.30pm.
